STARTED BY TWO MINECRAFT PLAYERS

FREE & PAID MINECRAFT SERVERS

We started with one server.
Now you can start yours.

I used to run a Minecraft server on my Ryzen 5 3600 PC. DDoS attacks and hosting costs eventually made me stop. A few years later, Qking and I started FreeMcHosting using our own hardware, so more people could try hosting without spending loads of money.

You don't need to pay for the free plan. You earn credits to keep your servers running. How that works ↗

Here are the paid plans.

Paid hosting runs on separate servers from the free plan. Pick a monthly tier in the dashboard and split its resource pool between your Minecraft servers.

HOW THE FREE POOL WORKS

Your free resources.
You decide how to split them.

You get one free pool with up to 4 GB RAM, 200% CPU and 25 GB storage. You can make more than one server, but they all share those limits. For example, you could give 2 GB RAM to one server and 1 GB each to two others.

Free servers use credits. You get credits by completing tasks in the rewards programme. Auto-renewal is on by default, so if you have enough credits your server renews without you having to do it manually.

HOW IT BEGANTHE PEOPLE BEHIND FREEMCHOSTING

It started
with a desktop PC.

I wanted to run Minecraft servers without paying a hosting company every month. After years of building computers, I had enough spare hardware to try something different.

FreeMcHosting, started by me and Qking
THEN / THE FIRST SERVER

My first server was on a Ryzen 5 3600.

I started by running a Minecraft server on a normal desktop PC, and we ended up with a pretty good community. But we kept getting DDoS attacks and bots. Another server owner suggested a hosting company, which made things much easier, but the monthly cost was too much. In the end I stopped running it.

LATER / HARDWARE BUILDS

I had loads of spare computer parts.

A few years later, I'd been building and selling computers and had quite a lot of hardware left over. I wanted to make a private Minecraft server for my friends, but 32 GB of RAM was more than we needed. This time I used a cheap VPS to help protect the network, while the actual Minecraft server ran on our own machine.

NOW / THE COMMUNITY PROJECT

So why not let other people use it?

That is how FreeMcHosting started. Qking is a friend I met back when I ran my first Minecraft server, and we started this project together. We now have servers in the UK and Netherlands. A few volunteers also help us with support tickets.

How to start
your own server.

Make your account

Create an account, then choose free hosting or a paid plan in the dashboard.

Set up your server

Choose your Minecraft software, give the server its resources and set it up with the console or file manager.

Invite your friends

Copy the server address from the dashboard and give it to your friends. Remember that free servers need credits to renew.

A small team.
Our own hardware.
And some limits.

Me and Qking mainly run the project, with some volunteers helping on support tickets. We have nodes in the UK and Netherlands. We also monitor abuse, such as people running mining scripts or trying to misuse our network.

Because we self-host, we can't guarantee 100% uptime. Power problems and maintenance can still happen. If there is a serious attack, we may need to stop the free node temporarily. Please keep backups of your important worlds.

PRACTICAL QUESTIONS

A few things to know
before you start.

We're a small project running our own servers. Here are some things you should know before using them.

Browse every guide ↗
What exactly do I get for free?

You get up to 4 GB RAM, 200% CPU and 25 GB storage across your free servers. You decide how to split it. Earn credits from rewards to keep those servers renewed.

How does automatic renewal work?

Auto-renewal is on by default. If you have enough credits, your server renews on its own. You can turn it off in the dashboard.

What do the paid tiers include?

Tier 1 is £4.99/month for a 6 GB RAM, 400% CPU and 30 GB disk pool. Tier 2 is £8.99/month for 8 GB, 600% CPU and 50 GB storage. Each tier has separate per-server allocation, database and backup allowances. Compare them here.

Can I upgrade my existing free world?

Yes, but you need to move the files yourself for now. Download them from your free server and upload them to your paid server. If something goes wrong, contact us and we can help. We hope to add automatic transfers later.

Is there an uptime guarantee?

No. We run the servers ourselves, so maintenance and power issues can happen. We may also stop the free node for a while during a serious attack. Check the status page and keep backups.

Does FreeMcHosting belong to Mojang or Microsoft?

No. It's an independent Minecraft community project and is not affiliated with either company.
