FreeMcHosting FAQ

FreeMcHosting is a community project started by me and Qking. We run Minecraft servers in the UK and Netherlands, and a few volunteers help with support tickets.

Why we started

I used to run my own Minecraft server on a Ryzen 5 3600 desktop. We had a good community, but DDoS attacks and bots were a real problem. I moved to a hosting company for a while, but the monthly cost became too much.

A few years later, I was building and selling computers and had spare hardware. I made a private Minecraft server for my friends, but the 32 GB machine had much more RAM than we needed. I rented a cheap VPS to help protect the connection and kept the Minecraft server running on our own hardware.

That gave us the idea for FreeMcHosting. I wanted other people to be able to try Minecraft hosting even if they had a small budget. Qking, who had been helping me since my earlier server days, started the project with me.

What you get for free

Resource Free account pool
RAM Up to 4 GB
CPU 200%
Storage 25 GB
Servers As many as you can fit inside the pool
Renewal Credits earned from reward tasks

You decide how to divide the pool between your servers. For example, you could have two smaller servers instead of one bigger server. You do not get 4 GB RAM for each server. The 4 GB is the maximum across your free pool.

How credits work

Free servers use credits. You earn them by completing tasks in the rewards programme. Auto-renewal is on by default. If you have enough credits, your servers renew automatically unless you turn that setting off.

What about paid hosting?

We also have two paid plans: Tier 1 costs £4.99 per month and Tier 2 costs £8.99 per month. They give you bigger resource pools and run on different servers from the free plan. You can see all the limits on our plans page.

If you already have a free server, you need to move the files yourself for now. We hope to add automatic transfers later. If you get stuck, contact us and we'll help.

What happens if there's a problem?

We host the servers ourselves, so we can't promise 100% uptime. Power issues and maintenance can happen. If there is a serious attack, we may need to stop the free node temporarily. We also monitor misuse such as mining scripts. You can check our status page.

Please keep your own backups of any worlds you care about.
